About UsOur MissionTo build competent, enduring English Language skills for children in a creative, stimulating learning environment that motivates students to want to learn English, to become confident to explore and express ideas and to become a critical thinker and persuasive communicator. Our Curriculum At Flamingo English, our curriculum comprehensively covers the current
English Language Syllabus of the Ministry of Education, Singapore. Your
child will be taught Conversation Skills, along with Creative Writing/Composition
Skills, Reading and Listening Students in Secondary 1 and 2 re-visit topics introduced in the primary years in both Grammar and Vocabulary and draw out skills in more integrated activities, i.e. Listening and Writing or Reading and Speaking. Literature is introduced at these levels. Secondary 3 – 4 expand students skills further and students must master the main text type styles, read literature competently, practise debate and focus on how to improve their ability to persuade their opposition both in debate and in expositions. Students in Secondary are encouraged to become Thinking, Confident, Critical and Creative Communicators. Students at all levels are given plenty of opportunity to practise developing solid language skills . . . for life. Our Method Our TeachersOur dedicated teachers are carefully selected not only for their English Language teaching qualifications and experience, but also for their warm and caring approach towards children, and professional commitment as teachers. Our Facilities “English-only” is encouraged throughout our facility to provide your child with plenty of opportunity to practice their skills in practical situations. Our ScheduleOur schedule closely follows the school calendar with classes beginning generally the same week as school begins. Holidays also generally correspond to the school calendar. We run four ten-week terms per year with new class levels beginning in either January or July. Most levels run for 2 or 4 terms so that levels may be completed over either a 6-month or 12-month period (with the exception of TOEFL Prep, which runs for 15 weeks, or the Get Talking, Get Reading or Get Ahead Programs which are short Remedial programs which run for one term or 10 weeks.) New students are accepted at the beginning of the term only. Student Placement and Registration For Primary and Secondary Classes, all students must complete a Placement Test and have an interview to determine their initial Placement. After this, students will then have a Trial class where the teacher will determine if the Placement is accurate. There is no charge for Placement Testing, Interviewing or Trial Classes. For students interested in enrolling in our Pre-TOEFL, TOEFL or IELTS Preparation Programmes, students must take a Prediction Test to determine whether they may qualify to take these courses and to determine the appropriate level. There is a charge for this test and the test must be done by appointment only. For program information or to schedule a placement test or prediction test, please feel free to call one of our Student Services Representatives for further information.
