Children's Afternoon English Programs

• English for Primary 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B

• Primary 1A – 6 B - six months (2 terms of 10 weeks)
• Get Reading – 10 weeks (1 term)
• Get Talking – 10 weeks (1 term)

• 70 minutes

• 2 times per week

• Generally 10 – 20 minutes of homework after each class along with Reading Program

• Regular Progress Testing on Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading and Listening Comprehension Requirements, Writing Assignments and Process Assessments on class Activities

• Provided at the end of each term (every ten weeks)

• Teachers available to discuss student progress at the end of each term (every ten weeks)

• Provided at the successful completion of each level

• Students complete a placement test, have an interview and are evaluated during trial class.

Oral Language – discussions, debates, oral language games, recitations, speech and drama activities help develop fluent speech, strong verbal communication skills and good pronunciation, ensuring that your child becomes an effective communicator in English.

Reading Skills – reading comprehension activities are an integral part of the program. Regular short story and literature reading from traditional and contemporary extracts along thematic topics ensure that comprehension is tackled in a meaningful complex. Each student is placed on an individual reading program and reading progress is carefully supervised by the class teacher. Students are encouraged to borrow books from our well-stocked library to read at home.

Listening Comprehension – listening is a vital skill in the acquisition of any language and students’ progress is regularly tested and monitored. We build upon your child’s understanding of the spoken word by exposing him to a wide variety of different native English speaking models and text types.

Creative Writing – our students are exposed to a wide variety of writing styles and are encouraged to explore these through written English. They are taught how to structure and write good compositions, and learn planning and editing techniques to improve the accuracy of their writing. In addition, they are given the opportunity to explore a whole range of other exciting writing genres such a poetry, reports, motivational writing and so on, where they can express themselves creatively. Students are encouraged to publish their final draft to allow the final polish on their work.

Vocabulary – we have written our own P1, P2 and P3 vocabulary books to ensure students have mastered a foundation level of vocabulary prior to advancing to the P4 to P6 levels which build on a student’s ability to express themselves more clearly with an advanced level of vocabulary and an awareness of connotation.

Grammar – our methods of teaching grammar are innovative and proven to allow students to understand how the English Language works structurally. Students are given a thorough grounding in the rules of grammar and are given the opportunity to practise these rules in meaningful contexts, both orally and in writing, through our own Grammar books which practice, practice, practice necessary grammar in a systematic manner.
